Walker sits just west of Grand Rapids in Kent County, Michigan. It is a suburban city, and its map has a mix of textures. There are straight section-line roads inherited from the old survey grid, and curving subdivisions tucked between them. Large commercial and industrial parcels line the main corridors.
Interstate 96 crosses the city, and its interchanges are among the most striking forms on the map, long loops and ramps set against the smaller residential streets. Walker also has areas of woodland, parks and creek valleys. The Grand River lies along the northern edge of the wider area.
