The map

About this Yirkā map poster

Yirkā is a Druze town in Israel's Northern District, in the hills of the Western Galilee east of Acre. The town spreads across hilly ground, and its streets follow the slopes, bending around ridges and climbing in switchbacks. From above the pattern looks organic and tightly packed, with none of the straight lines found in planned towns on the plain below.

Yirkā is one of the larger Druze communities in Israel and has a strong reputation as a commercial centre, with shops and businesses that draw customers from across the region. The Druze tradition of close-knit family neighbourhoods shows in the dense blocks of houses gathered along each lane.

A Yirkā map poster shows a hillside town in fine detail: curving roads, cul-de-sacs following the contours, and olive groves and open ground at the edges. The black and white linework gives the terrain a sculpted quality without any shading, because the streets themselves describe the hills.

Contour-following streets

Roads curve along the slopes and loop around ridges, so the street pattern reveals the shape of the hills without any elevation shading.

02

Dense residential core

Houses are packed tightly along narrow lanes in the older parts of town, creating a detailed, closely woven centre on the poster.

03

Galilee hill setting

The town sits above the coastal plain inland from Acre, with open slopes and cultivated ground surrounding the built-up area.
