The map
Kafr Qāsim is an Arab city in Israel's Central District, in the area known as the Triangle, where the coastal plain begins to rise into the hills. It is widely remembered for the 1956 massacre, in which border police killed dozens of residents, an event the town commemorates every year. Today it is also a growing commercial and industrial centre.
The map shows a town that grew outward from an older core on higher ground. Near the centre the streets are dense and irregular and follow the slope. Newer neighbourhoods spread at their own angles as housing expanded. An industrial zone adds larger rectangular blocks, and major roads pass close by, linking the city to the rest of the region.
A Kafr Qāsim map poster gives residents and people from the city a clear view of home: the tight old neighbourhoods, the newer streets on the slopes and the open land beyond. The print is calm and unadorned. It lets the street pattern, shaped by terrain and decades of growth, speak for itself.
The oldest neighbourhoods sit close together on higher ground, where narrow, winding streets reflect the village the city originally grew from.
Newer residential areas spread down and across the surrounding slopes. Their streets follow the terrain and give the city an irregular, layered outline.
A large industrial area of long, rectangular blocks sits beside the residential town, a clear contrast in scale that stands out on the printed map.
