The map

About this Machado map poster

Machado is a municipality in southern Minas Gerais, an upland region of rolling hills known across Brazil for its coffee production. The town's map follows the terrain: the centre is a relatively compact grid around the main square, but the streets soon bend and climb as they reach the surrounding slopes.

On the outskirts, residential areas spread along the ridges and valleys, and the urban edge gives way to farmland. There, coffee plantations appear on satellite images as neat rows following the contours, and rural roads curve between farms, reservoirs and patches of woodland.

A Machado map poster captures a typical Minas town where the land shapes the streets instead of the other way round. The mix of a straight central grid and freer outer roads makes for a balanced composition, with plenty of detail but no clutter.

01

Central square

The main square and its church anchor a compact grid of blocks at the heart of town, the most regular part of the map.

02

Hill-following streets

Beyond the centre the streets curve and climb over the rolling terrain of southern Minas, giving the outer districts a softer pattern.

03

Coffee country

Farmland around the town is largely devoted to coffee, with rural roads winding between farms and small reservoirs toward the neighbouring municipalities.
