Te mapa
Acajutla lies in the Sonsonate Department on El Salvador's western Pacific coast. It is the country's main seaport. On a map the port takes up the shoreline, with breakwaters, a long pier and large industrial areas. The town's street grid lies just inland, and the open ocean fills the entire western side of the drawing.
The name appears early in the country's history. In 1524 Pedro de Alvarado fought the Battle of Acajutla against Pipil forces near here, during the Spanish conquest of the region. Today the coast around the town is also known for its surf breaks and dark volcanic sand beaches.
An Acajutla map poster emphasises the edge between land and sea. It shows the port's geometric structures reaching into the water, the compact town behind them and the coastal road leading to beaches to the north and south. The composition is simple and strong, with a large, empty expanse of ocean on one side.
The breakwaters and long pier of El Salvador's main port stretch into the Pacific, giving the map its most precise, engineered lines.
Behind the port, a compact grid of streets forms the residential and commercial centre. It is clearly separate from the industrial waterfront.
The coastline extends in both directions from town, with beaches and surf spots along a long, gently curving edge.

Koteā ko Acajutla
For people who work at the port, surf the nearby breaks or grew up by this stretch of coast, the map captures Acajutla's clear relationship with the ocean. The large open sea gives the print a calm, spacious feel.
