Te mapa
Banyo sits on the western edge of Cameroon's Adamaoua plateau, not far from the Nigerian border. From above it doesn't look like a planned grid. A handful of main roads meet near the centre, and quieter lanes branch off them to follow the rise and fall of the land. Past the last houses the lines thin out into tracks that cross open grazing country.
The town has long been the seat of a lamidat, a traditional Fulani chiefdom. Its layout still reflects that role: a core of compounds, a market and places of worship, with homes grouped around them. The plateau is cattle country, and the roads out of Banyo run towards pastures and neighbouring towns rather than to any coast or large river.
In black and white, the Banyo map poster shows a town defined by its setting. Roads curve around higher ground, and there's plenty of open space between the built-up clusters. The streets are fairly sparse, so the print feels light, with a lot of paper left around each line. It works well for anyone with ties to the Adamaoua highlands.
A few principal roads meet near the centre of town and fan outward. On the poster they read as a loose star shape against the finer network of residential lanes.
The streets bend with the undulating plateau instead of following straight lines. This gives the map an organic, hand-drawn quality even at small print sizes.
Buildings thin out quickly at the edge of town. Tracks run out into grazing land, leaving wide empty margins that frame the settlement clearly.
