Te mapa
Cabagan sits in the Cagayan Valley of northern Luzon, in the province of Isabela. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets on flat valley ground. Farm roads run out from it in straight lines, and the paddies around it form a patchwork of small rectangles. The river system that drains the valley loops close by and shapes the edge of the settlement.
The town centre has the usual Philippine layout: a plaza, a church and a municipal hall, with a tighter block pattern around them. Further out the streets thin into barangay roads lined with houses. Beyond those are open fields. East of the valley floor the terrain begins to fold upward toward the Sierra Madre, one of the longest mountain ranges in the country.
Many Filipinos know Cabagan through pancit Cabagan, a local noodle dish served with a thick sauce and named after the town. A Cabagan map poster shows the part of the place that people rarely think about: the ordered grid at the centre, the loose rural roads around it and the river curves that set the town's limits.
The civic centre forms the densest knot of streets. Short blocks pack around the plaza, and main roads leave it toward the surrounding barangays.
Rice fields and farm plots surround the town. Seen from above, they read as a fine mesh of field boundaries and straight access roads across the flat valley floor.
Waterways of the Cagayan basin run near the town. Their soft bends and sandbars contrast with the right angles of the street plan.

Koteā ko Cabagan
People who grew up in Cabagan, or who left for Manila or abroad, often want a quiet reminder of home on the wall. The plaza, the roads out to the fields and the river bends are exactly what memory holds on to.
