Te mapa
Chalchuapa lies in Santa Ana Department in western El Salvador, a short distance west of the city of Santa Ana. From above, the town has a regular colonial grid of blocks around its central square and church. Coffee and farmland surround it, and the small Laguna de Cuzcachapa sits close to the town's edge.
It is one of the most important archaeological areas in the country. The Tazumal ruins, with their stepped Maya pyramid, stand within the town itself, and nearby sites such as Casa Blanca and El Trapiche show settlement over thousands of years. In 1885 Chalchuapa was also the site of the battle in which the Guatemalan president Justo Rufino Barrios was killed.
A Chalchuapa map poster shows a small town where the ancient and the everyday sit side by side. The regular grid of streets meets the open grounds of the archaeological parks and the soft outline of the lagoon, giving the print an unusual mix of order and open space.
The main archaeological park sits at the edge of the historic centre. On the map it appears as an open space among the surrounding blocks.
This small lagoon near the town draws a soft, rounded shape on the poster, a quiet contrast to the straight streets of the grid.
Streets meet at right angles around the central plaza and church. This classic Spanish colonial layout forms the backbone of the town.

Koteā ko Chalchuapa
Chalchuapa appeals to anyone with Salvadoran roots, to visitors to Tazumal and to people interested in Maya history. The map tells a layered story in a very small space, and its balance of grid and open ground feels considered on a wall.
