Te mapa
Chiredzi lies in the southeastern lowveld of Zimbabwe, in Masvingo Province, in a hot, dry landscape transformed by irrigation. The town grew in the second half of the twentieth century to serve the sugar estates of the region, and its map still shows that purpose: a neat, planned town surrounded by large rectangular fields.
The urban area has a clear structure of residential streets, a commercial centre and roads leading out toward the estates and the nearby Chiredzi River. Beyond the town, the geometry of irrigated plots contrasts sharply with the dry bush further out.
Chiredzi is also a gateway to Gonarezhou National Park, one of the country's largest protected areas. A Chiredzi map poster captures the town at the meeting point of these two landscapes: the orderly grids of the sugar industry and the open lowveld beyond them.
Large rectangular irrigated fields surround the town, a strong geometric pattern that is clearly visible from above and defines the wider composition.
The town was laid out with a clear structure of residential streets and a compact commercial centre, giving it a tidy and legible shape.
The river passes near the town, adding a winding natural line that contrasts with the straight edges of the fields and roads.

Koteā ko Chiredzi
Many people have lived and worked in Chiredzi through the sugar estates, and many passed through on the way to Gonarezhou. A map of the town and its fields is a distinctive reminder of the lowveld.
