Te mapa
Damyang lies in South Jeolla Province, just north of Gwangju, in the upper valley of the Yeongsan River. The river starts in the mountains of the county and flows past the town towards the south-west. On a map the town is a compact centre on flat ground, surrounded by rice fields and wooded hills, with the river curving along one side.
Damyang is known across Korea for its bamboo. The Juknokwon bamboo forest near the town centre and generations of bamboo crafts have made the name almost synonymous with the plant. It is also famous for a long avenue of metasequoia trees and for Soswaewon, a Joseon-era garden that is among the best-known traditional gardens in the country.
A Damyang map poster frames the town as a small, tidy grid within a wide agricultural landscape. The Yeongsan's banks, roads running straight across the fields and the soft edges of forested hills fill the rest of the frame. It is a quiet image that matches the county's reputation as a place to slow down.
The upper Yeongsan passes close to the town centre. Its embankments and gentle bends add a long curving line across the lower part of the map.
The county seat is a small, dense grid of streets on flat ground and clearly stands out against the surrounding fields.
Wooded hills, including the bamboo areas the county is known for, close off the valley. On the map they form calm, open areas around the streets.

Damyang is a place people visit to walk among bamboo and trees, and a hometown for families spread across Gwangju and Seoul. A map poster keeps its quiet layout in view as a reminder of a slower pace.
