Te mapa
Hōjō is an area on the north-western coast of Ehime Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku. It was a city in its own right until 2005, when it merged into Matsuyama, but it still has its own identity. It faces the Seto Inland Sea, and the islands of that sheltered water are visible from its shore.
On a map, Hōjō is a narrow coastal plain. A railway and a coastal road run roughly parallel to the shoreline, and the town's streets fill the flat land between them and the sea. Rice fields and orchards extend inland towards wooded hills that rise behind the town. Just off the coast, the small island of Kashima forms a rounded outline in the water, a well-known local landmark reached by a short ferry.
A Hōjō map poster captures a relationship between land and sea that is common along the Inland Sea but is especially clear here. The shoreline, the offshore island and the hills behind make a balanced composition, well suited to anyone with family in Matsuyama or memories of the Ehime coast.

The town occupies a narrow strip of flat land between the Inland Sea and the hills, with road and rail following the shoreline.
Wooded slopes rise inland from the fields, framing the settlement and giving the upper part of the poster a textured, contoured edge.
