Te mapa
La Paz Centro is in the department of León in western Nicaragua, on the broad lowland between the Pacific coast and Lake Managua. To the east the Momotombo volcano rises near the lakeshore, and the country around the town is open farmland and dry forest. The main road between Managua and León passes close by, and many people know the town from that route.
The town follows the Spanish colonial pattern: a regular grid of square blocks around a central plaza and church, with streets running straight in every direction. On a map this makes a neat checkerboard that thins out into farm tracks at the edges, with the highway running past as a longer, straighter line.
The municipality contains the ruins of León Viejo, the original colonial city abandoned in the seventeenth century and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is also known for clay tiles and bricks, and for quesillos sold along the road. A La Paz Centro map poster suits anyone who has made that stop on the way to León.
Square blocks around the plaza form a regular checkerboard, the clearest shape in the print and typical of towns across western Nicaragua.
The Managua–León road passes near the town as a long straight line, giving the map a strong direction and connecting it to the wider region.
Beyond the grid, farm tracks cross the flat lowland towards the lake and volcano, leaving generous empty space around the town.
