Te mapa
Motomachi is in the east of Hokkaido, inland from the Sea of Okhotsk. It is a region of wide farming plains, forested hills and long northern winters. Settlements here were mostly laid out as Hokkaido was developed from the late nineteenth century onward. That planned origin shows clearly on the map.
The streets form a neat, regular grid of rectangular blocks. Straight roads carry on into the countryside as field boundaries and farm tracks. Rivers wind across the plain on their way north to the coast. Their loose curves are the main natural lines crossing the geometric pattern of town and field.
A Motomachi map poster captures this Hokkaido landscape in its simplest form: a small, orderly town, a patchwork of large fields and the soft shapes of rivers and wooded slopes. In Noir it takes on a graphic winter quality. In Sand or Paper it recalls the farmland in late summer.

Large rectangular fields surround the town. Their boundaries carry the grid far into the countryside and fill the edges of the poster with quiet texture.
Rivers cross the plain toward the Sea of Okhotsk. They add winding lines and bands of riverside woodland to an otherwise geometric landscape.

Koteā ko Motomachi
Eastern Hokkaido stays with those who have lived there or travelled through: open horizons, quiet towns and deep snow. A map of Motomachi keeps that sense of space in a small, understated frame.
