Te mapa
Polangui is a municipality in the north-west of Albay province, in the Bicol Region of southern Luzon. It lies on the low, fertile plain that stretches across this part of Bicol, where rice fields and coconut groves cover most of the land. To the east, the perfect cone of Mayon Volcano dominates the view over the province.
From above, the town centre is a small, fairly regular grid of streets around the town hall and church, which is typical of Philippine poblaciones. Main roads leave in several directions toward neighbouring towns, and the railway line of the Bicol main line runs through. Beyond the centre, barangays spread out across fields in thinner, scattered clusters.
A Polangui map poster shows a farming town at a human scale: a compact centre, roads leading out to the barangays, and wide farmland all around. In black and white, the fields appear as calm open space, and the fine grid at the centre draws the eye. It is a good choice for people from Albay who live far from home.
The town centre follows the traditional Philippine plan of a small grid around the church and town hall, compact and easy to read on paper.
The Bicol main line of the railway passes through Polangui, adding a long, steady line to the otherwise open farmland.
Mayon Volcano rises to the east of the town. It sits beyond the map frame but shapes the landscape and the view that residents know.
