Te mapa
Qoryooley is a town in the Lower Shabeelle region of southern Somalia, lying close to the Shabelle River in one of the country's most important agricultural zones. The river and the irrigation it supports shape the whole landscape: fields line the water, and canals and tracks run out from it in straight lines.
The town itself is modest in extent, with streets grouped around a centre and roads leading to surrounding farms and villages. Historically the Lower Shabelle valley has been known for crops such as bananas, grains and vegetables, grown on land made fertile by the river.
A Qoryooley map poster shows this relationship between town and river clearly: the winding line of the Shabelle, the geometric plots beside it and the compact settlement nearby. For people from Qoryooley living elsewhere in Somalia or in the diaspora, it offers a calm and personal picture of home.
The river winds past the town, a soft curving line that contrasts with the straighter fields and tracks around it.
Cultivated plots and irrigation channels spread along the river valley, one of the main farming areas of southern Somalia.
The built-up area is small and concentrated, with roads radiating outward toward nearby villages and farms.
