Te mapa
Quezaltepeque lies in La Libertad Department, north of San Salvador, on the lower slopes of the San Salvador volcano. The name comes from Nahuat and is usually read as "mountain of the quetzals", and it echoes Quetzaltepec, the old name for the volcano itself. On a map, the town's regular streets sit on gently tilted ground, with the mountain rising to the south.
The centre follows the Spanish colonial pattern common in El Salvador: a grid of blocks organised around a central square and church, with main roads leading out toward the capital and neighbouring towns. Newer neighbourhoods extend outward along those routes, and the grid softens where it meets ravines and the rising terrain.
A Quezaltepeque map poster captures a town shaped by its volcano. The streets are orderly, but the landscape around them is not, with slopes, streams and agricultural land breaking up the edges of the settlement. Framed wider, the map begins to suggest the mass of the mountain, a powerful presence even in a minimal style.
The town centre is laid out in regular blocks around a central plaza and church, the classic structure of Salvadoran towns, clearly legible from above.
To the south, the land rises toward the San Salvador volcano, and the street pattern loosens as the terrain becomes steeper and more broken.
Main routes link Quezaltepeque with San Salvador and surrounding towns, giving the poster strong connecting lines that cut across the valley.
