Te mapa
Sanyang lies on the Atlantic coast of The Gambia, south of the Greater Banjul area. The village sits a short distance inland from a long, straight beach. On a map, sandy lanes and compounds form an irregular cluster, with tracks running down to the shore and a main coastal road passing nearby.
Sanyang is known for its fishing beach, where brightly painted pirogues land their catch and fish is sorted, sold and smoked on the sand. The beach also draws visitors from the tourist areas farther north, while village life inland continues around family compounds, farms and small markets.
A Sanyang map poster shows the meeting of village and ocean. The Atlantic fills one side of the frame in a smooth, calm expanse, and the shoreline runs in a long, even line. Inland, the pattern becomes finer, with lanes and compounds forming a textured, closely knit settlement.
A long, straight stretch of beach marks the western edge of the map, where the ocean forms a single clean boundary against the village.
Tracks lead from the village to the shore, where fishing boats land their catch and the beach becomes a working space for sorting, selling and smoking fish.
Family compounds and sandy lanes form an irregular, dense pattern inland, very different from a planned grid, with the coastal road running close by.
