Te mapa
Shekou occupies the southern end of the Nanshan peninsula in Shenzhen, facing Hong Kong across the water. The map shows a place shaped by the coast and by large-scale construction. Container docks and wharves line the western shore, reclaimed land extends the coast, and residential towers and wide avenues fill the space in between.
In 1979, Shekou became one of the first industrial zones of China's reform era, developed by China Merchants. The experiment helped shape the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the city that grew from it. Today the district combines working ports with residential neighbourhoods, offices and waterfront parks.
Sea World, built around a former cruise ship set on land, is one of the district's best-known landmarks. Ferries leave from Shekou for Hong Kong and Macau, and Shenzhen Bay Bridge begins not far to the east. A Shekou map poster shows a coastline drawn more by engineering than by nature.
Large docks and wharves line the western shore, their straight edges and long piers giving the coast a strong, geometric outline.
Much of the coastline is built on reclaimed land, and the resulting waterfront parks and promenades trace clean, deliberate curves along the bay.
Ferries run from Shekou to Hong Kong and Macau, linking the district across the Pearl River estuary and anchoring its southern edge.

Koteā ko Shekou
Shekou is home to a large international community and many long-time Shenzhen residents, and it is a place people often leave with strong memories. A map of its coast makes a lasting reminder of time spent there.
