Te mapa
Sing Buri is the capital of the small province of the same name in central Thailand, on the Chao Phraya River north of Bangkok. From above, the town runs in a long strip along the river, with the main streets parallel to the water and rice fields stretching away on both sides.
The Chao Phraya is the strongest feature on the map, a broad band with gentle bends. Canals and irrigation channels cut through the surrounding plain, and the grid of paddy fields makes a pattern of its own. Bridges and river crossings link the two banks.
The province is known for the story of Bang Rachan, the village whose people resisted the Burmese army in the 1760s, and for the large reclining Buddha at Wat Phra Non Chakkrasi. A Sing Buri map poster shows the river, the town strung along it and the rice plain around both.
Thailand's main river runs through the town in broad bends, the defining shape of the whole composition.
Straight channels and field boundaries cut the surrounding plain into a regular pattern, contrasting with the curving river.
The town extends along the water rather than inland, giving the map a long, linear built-up form.

Koteā ko Sing Buri
Sing Buri appeals to people from the central plains, to those who know the Bang Rachan story, and to anyone who has travelled up the Chao Phraya. The river gives the poster a flowing, balanced line.
