Residential blocks
Housing compounds fill most of the map, each one a rectangle of buildings with its own internal paths. Together they create a steady, repeating texture across the poster.

Te mapa
Songnan is a town in Baoshan District, on the northern edge of Shanghai, not far from where the Huangpu River meets the Yangtze estuary. It is almost entirely urban. From above, the map shows compact residential compounds laid out in regular blocks, separated by wide roads and threaded with small green spaces.
The area grew as housing for the industries along Shanghai's northern waterfront, including the large steelworks further north in Baoshan. Wide arterial roads and an elevated metro line carry commuters towards central Shanghai, and those long, straight corridors are the strongest lines on the map.
Close by, Wusongkou marks the historic entrance to the Huangpu, where ships pass between the river and the open estuary. A Songnan map poster shows a side of Shanghai that skyline photographs rarely capture: an ordered, everyday grid of homes and streets, set close to one of the busiest waterways in the world.
Housing compounds fill most of the map, each one a rectangle of buildings with its own internal paths. Together they create a steady, repeating texture across the poster.
Broad roads and the elevated metro run in long, straight lines through the town. They divide the blocks and connect Songnan to the rest of Shanghai.
Just northeast, the Huangpu and the Yangtze meet at Wusongkou. Depending on the framing, their broad water can give the design a strong, open edge.

Koteā ko Songnan
Songnan is home to many families who built their lives in northern Shanghai, far from the tourist views of the Bund. This map shows the neighbourhood as it is: an ordinary, well-ordered piece of a huge city.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a building name or a year, and set the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download 300 DPI files in six print sizes for $9, or order a printed poster.
