The Takahashi River
The river runs the length of the town and gives the map its main axis. Streets, the railway and most buildings line up along its banks, so the water becomes the clearest line on the poster.

Te mapa
Takahashi sits in the hills of western Okayama, and from above it reads as a long, thin settlement pressed into a valley. The Takahashi River runs north to south through the middle, and the town's streets, rail line and houses crowd the flat ground on either side before the contours rise steeply into wooded slopes.
The town is best known for Bitchū Matsuyama Castle, which stands on Mount Gagyū above the valley and is often described as the highest castle in Japan with an original surviving keep. Below it, the older quarters near the river keep the tighter street pattern of a former castle town, in contrast to the looser roads spreading along the valley floor.
A Takahashi map poster shows a place shaped almost entirely by terrain. The river forms the spine, the valley walls set the edges, and the mountain roads branch off in thin threads. Rendered in black and white, the composition is vertical and calm, with the dense core giving way to the blank space of the surrounding hills.
The river runs the length of the town and gives the map its main axis. Streets, the railway and most buildings line up along its banks, so the water becomes the clearest line on the poster.
Bitchū Matsuyama Castle occupies high ground above the town. On the map, the winding approach roads climbing Mount Gagyū stand apart from the orderly streets of the valley below.
Because flat land is scarce, the street network is long and narrow rather than round. The result is an elongated shape that sits well in a portrait frame.

Koteā ko Takahashi
People hang Takahashi for the castle walks, for family roots in Okayama, or for the quiet memory of a mountain valley town. The river-and-ridge composition works well above a desk or in a hallway where a long vertical shape fits naturally.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a date or a family name. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed or unframed.
