Te mapa
Trung Phụng is a small ward in Đống Đa district, in central Hanoi, south-west of the Old Quarter. On a map it is almost entirely built up, a fine mesh of narrow lanes and alleys, known locally as ngõ and ngách, running between larger streets. The density of lines is extraordinary for such a small area.
This is residential Hanoi at close range. The alley network grew incrementally, so paths bend, split and dead-end rather than following any plan. Houses are tall and narrow, packed tightly together, and the map shows little open space. It is the pattern many Hanoi residents know from daily life, walking or riding through tight, busy passages.
A Trung Phụng map poster turns that density into a strikingly intricate composition. Printed in black and white, the ward becomes an almost textile pattern of lines. It is a highly personal image for people who have lived here, and it captures something essential about the texture of inner-city Hanoi.
Countless narrow alleys branch off the main streets, splitting into smaller lanes, and together they create one of the densest street patterns a map can show.
A few wider streets frame the ward and carry most traffic, providing firm edges to the intricate web of lanes inside.
With almost no open land, the ward appears as a solid field of linework, reflecting the tall, narrow houses typical of central Hanoi neighbourhoods.

Koteā ko Trung Phụng
Trung Phụng suits those who value detail. For anyone who grew up among its alleys, or has lived in central Hanoi, the map is an intimate reminder of home and neighbours. Its intricate pattern also works well as a purely graphic piece.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. At 300 DPI, even the smallest lanes print crisply. HD files cost $9, and printed posters are available.
