Te mapa
Yamaranguila lies in the highlands of Intibucá, in western Honduras, not far from the departmental capital La Esperanza. From above, it is a mountain landscape: a small central settlement, with roads and paths winding across the slopes to scattered villages. Much of the map is taken up by the terrain rather than by streets.
This is a region with a strong Lenca heritage, and indigenous communities make up much of the population of the area. The land is farmed in small plots, often on the slopes, and the climate at this altitude is cooler than in the Honduran lowlands. Settlements follow the ridges and valleys rather than any regular grid.
A Yamaranguila map poster shows the highlands more than a town. The winding roads, the small centre and the scattered villages form a delicate, open composition. In black and white, the lines of the roads follow the hills in ways a plain map rarely shows. It is a portrait of a mountain place shaped by its terrain.
Roads and tracks curve across the slopes, following the contours of the hills. They form the main pattern of lines across the map.
The municipal centre is a small cluster of streets, the densest point in a landscape otherwise made up of scattered homes and fields.
The municipality lies in a region with deep Lenca roots, where small villages spread across the uplands of Intibucá.
