Te mapa
Asakuchi lies in the southwest of Okayama prefecture, facing the Seto Inland Sea between Kurashiki and Kasaoka. It was formed in 2006 by the merger of three towns, and from above it still looks like a group of separate settlements joined by roads and a railway rather than one continuous city. Low hills divide the land, and the coast runs along the south.
The Konkō area is known as the birthplace and headquarters of Konkōkyō, a Japanese religious movement founded in the nineteenth century, and its complex forms a clear, organised area on the map. Elsewhere, farmland, orchards and small residential streets fill the flat land between the hills.
An Asakuchi map poster shows that scattered pattern: several small centres, the fine lines of rural roads and the calm shoreline of the Inland Sea. It is not a dense urban map but a portrait of a region, which gives it an open and airy look on the wall.
The southern edge follows the calm shoreline of the Seto Inland Sea. Its quiet curves contrast with the more irregular hills further inland.
The headquarters of Konkōkyō forms an orderly group of buildings and paths, one of the most clearly defined areas in the city.
Former towns sit among low hills and farmland, connected by winding roads and the railway, so the map reads as a cluster of small centres.
