Te mapa
Kannabe lies inland in the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, in a valley where rivers and roads run between forested hills. From above, the settlement stretches along the valley floor, with houses and small streets following the main routes and farmland filling the flatter ground.
Kannabe developed as a post town on the old Sanyō road, one of the historic routes that connected western Japan to the capital. That history still shows in the way the older part of the town follows a single long road, with side streets branching away toward the river and the hills.
A Kannabechō-yahiro map poster reflects the quiet structure of an inland Japanese town: linear rather than gridded, closely tied to the terrain, and surrounded by green space. The rail line and main roads run parallel through the valley, giving the map a set of long, calm lines.
The historic route through the town forms a long, slightly winding spine, with the older buildings gathered along it.
The flat land between the hills is filled with small streets and fields, a narrow band of detail running through the centre of the map.
Forested slopes enclose the valley on both sides, leaving large quiet areas that frame the settlement.
