Te mapa
Khasab is the main town of Musandam, the rocky Omani peninsula that reaches into the Strait of Hormuz, separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates. The town sits on a narrow strip of flat land at the head of a bay. Steep, bare mountains rise almost immediately behind it, and on the map they leave the built-up area very little room.
The coastline around Khasab is cut by deep inlets known as khors, often compared to fjords. Boat trips from the harbour take visitors into them, and dolphins are often seen in the water. Khasab Castle, a fort built by the Portuguese in the seventeenth century, stands near the shore. The port also handles small boat trade across the strait.
A Khasab map poster is defined by the meeting of rock, sea and a thin band of town. The jagged coastline and the deep inlets make one of the most dramatic outlines a small town can have. The streets hug the flat ground by the water, a compact, determined settlement at the edge of the Arabian Peninsula.
