Te mapa
Okcheon lies in the south of North Chungcheong Province, among low mountains east of Daejeon. On a map the town occupies a fairly small area of flat ground, with streets gathered around the railway and main roads. Forested hills rise on several sides, and farmland fills the narrow valleys between them.
North and west of the town the Geum River widens into Daecheong Lake, a reservoir with long, branching arms that follow the flooded valleys. Okcheon is also known as the home town of Jeong Ji-yong, one of the most important modern Korean poets, whose house is preserved here.
An Okcheon map poster brings together the compact town, the railway through it and the complex shoreline of the lake beyond. In black and white the irregular fingers of water and the hill country give the print depth and movement. It feels calm and literary, much like the poet's rural home region.
The reservoir on the Geum River spreads into long, winding arms that fill old valleys, the most striking shapes near the edge of the map.
The main line passes through Okcheon, and the town's densest streets cluster around it and the principal roads.
Low mountains surround the town, leaving only scattered roads and giving the poster wide, quiet areas around the centre.
