Te mapa
Sơn Tây lies on the western side of Hanoi's territory, close to the Red River and within sight of the Ba Vì mountains. The most striking shape on its map is the old citadel. It is a nearly perfect square enclosed by walls and a moat, and the town's streets have grown around it over the last two centuries.
The citadel was built in the early nineteenth century under the Nguyễn dynasty, using the reddish laterite stone typical of the area. The same stone appears in the houses of nearby Đường Lâm, a well-preserved ancient village. The town has also long been home to military institutions.
A Sơn Tây map poster is built around geometry. The square citadel and its water-filled moat sit at the centre. Around them are town streets, ponds and fields, and the Red River's wide floodplain lies just to the north. It is a compact, well-balanced image with a clear focal point.
The Nguyễn-era citadel has four walls and gates facing the cardinal directions, surrounded by a moat. On the map it is an unmistakable square at the heart of the town.
Just outside the town centre, the ancient village of Đường Lâm keeps its winding lanes and laterite walls. It is one of the best-known traditional villages in northern Vietnam.
To the north the land flattens towards the Red River, with dykes, fields and channels. It gives the map an open, watery edge.

Koteā ko Sơn Tây
Sơn Tây suits anyone who values history laid out in plain geometry. The citadel square with its moat is a strong centrepiece, and for many Hanoi families the town holds memories of weekend trips and military service.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a date or a family name. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The citadel's symmetry works especially well in Blueprint.
